Ephesians 6:4

And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Much like the directives for husbands toward their wives, here the fathers have expectations from God, and the children are expected to honor and obey. Notice the only instruction given to parents regarding children is directed at the father. Much like the instructions to the married, God places special emphasis on the role of the man, and the responsibility that he has been given towards women and children for their care, support, and growth. This would seem to hearken back to Genesis 1:26 and 2:15, where man is told to care for what God has made on this earth. And just as the marriage relationship creates a picture of the Church and God, so does parenthood. See Galatians 3:26 and I John 3: l.
